In elective, we learn about the Technology and Engineering parts of STEM. It is taught by Ms. St. Lawrence. She is a very good teacher. We had various major units throughout the year in Elective. Firstly, we had a Future City Competition unit, where we entered the Future City Competition. We had to write an essay and design our own futuristic city. Then, we had an engineering unit, where we learnt about different engineering principles and had many engineering challenges where we had to build things and test them. After that we had a Globaloria unit where we designed and made a game using Adobe Flash. Lastly, we used a site  called codecademy.com to learn about coding using either HTML, JavaScript, or Python.

The project that I chose to share here from this class is my Adobe Flash Game.  I have attached it below, so you can click play to start playing.  The point of the game is to live for  35 years.  You move using the arrow keys. If you get hit by the toucan, snake, or tarantula your health bar goes down. Your food automatically goes down, but you can increase it by getting the grasshopper. You can jump on the tree branches.  It is educational because a tree frog's natural predators are tarantulas, snakes, and toucans. Also, tree frogs eat insects like grasshoppers.

This project shows my ability to use the tools of Adobe Flash to create my own video game. For example, it shows my ability to make a play button, a health bar, a food icon, moving enemies, arrow controls, win/lose screens, if/else statements, platforms, variables, and many other things. I think that this assignment also shows my best work from this class because I went through the design process and thought of cool ideas for the game.  Also, some of the elements of the game we hadn't learnt about, so I had to use trial and error to find out the code for it.
